a wee garden show
May 14, 2008 by Emily Jones
here is a little slideshow of some of the things blooming in my gardens right now.
(i can’t seem to embed the show here so there is a link to it at the bottom of this post.)
as the gardens fill in through summer i will take some more pictures for you… what you’ll see now are a few examples of what is awake in April and May up here at my house in the endless mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania, USA.
i included a shot overlooking my home from the back gazing to the west… you can see what it looks like out here and just how many trees i live in. you can also see the very tippy top of my house and the old chimney.
if you stand in my back garden and look up the hill to the east you see the cemetary across the road. it is a gorgeous cemetary! on the other side of it is a huge drop-off to the great Susquehanna river.
for now though… enjoy.

This makes me miss the North! Lilies of the Valley and Lilacs . So much prettier than Texas… Thanks for sharing.
Erika,
wow, someone who lives in Texas that doesn’t think that Texas is just the shit. Ha!
i kid… but i’ve never met anyone who lives in Texas admit that anywhere else could possibly be prettier.
where you live in Austin is really pretty and green, if we had stayed in Texas we’d be there now. :o) at least you get rain!
despite what i’ve said in the past here and there, there are parts of Texas that i like. the Dallas area is my favorite, and i had the pleasure to visit a lush garden in Ft. Worth (can’t remember what it was called) that was amazing. San Antonio (also has a beautiful botanical garden, and don’t forget that riverwalk!) and Corpus are wonderful too… but where we lived in the desert of west Texas it was icky and depressing. it’s flat flat flat, nothing but cactus and mesquite and dirt. but the sky… oh man… that sky was incredible. that’s the only thing i even barely miss about living out there.
but yeah, i’ll take a lilac and lily of the valley over yucca and prickly pear any day!
oh and i don’t miss the Texas bugs either… except the tarantulas. those were COOL.
You said tippy-top! I thought I was the only person that ever said that phrase. It’s so nice to hear someone else use it :o)
Shaylee,
i had to go back and read through my post to see where i had written that. ha!
i didn’t even realize that i used that funny expression.
not surprised that you say “tippy top” too. not surprised at all!
:o)
We are moving next door to you- finally we will meet! Even if it has taken seven years! Those pictures are awesome! We thought Colorado would have trees- oh we were dooped!
Talk to you soon…..
